Computer manufacturing giant Lenovo Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit filed over an alleged laptop defect. The settlement will resolve a lawsuit that alleges the company sold some of its Ultrabook Computers to consumers with a design defect that negatively impacted on their Wi-Fi capabilities.

The class action lawsuit further alleged that the defective computers continuously failed to connect to wireless networks, even after being returned back to the company for repairs. After the filing of the lawsuit, Lenovo agreed to engage in mediation with the plaintiff, so as to come up with a resolution.

Persons affected by the settlement

The settlement class for the lawsuit includes all consumers who purchased Lenovo Ideapad U410 and Lenovo Ideapad U310 in the United States. All settlement class members are entitled to the settlement benefits on submission of a valid claim form.

Settlement claim period

The claim period consists of a 365-day period, starting on September 11th, 2014 up to September 11th, 2015. All claim forms must be submitted by then to be valid.

Settlement benefits quick hits

Consumers included in the settlement class can choose one of the following benefits:

1) Repair of the Wi-Fi capability and the extension of warranty for Wi-Fi related problems by one year.
2) A cash refund of $100 from Lenovo
3) A credit certificate worth $250 to be used in the purchase of any Lenovo product listed on their website.

Class members who are eligible for settlement, but who had returned their laptops for repairs can also opt to receive a full reimbursement of all expenses they paid for the repair of the Wi-Fi capability.
